Beaches on Læsø
Læsø's coastline is approx. 100 km, and 25 km consist of great beaches for swimming. Most of the beaches are found along the western and northern coast. In the southwest corner of Læsø, you can find "Stokken", a very special beach, detached from the rest of the island.
Sea kayaking
Conditions on Læsø are ideal for sea kayaking. Some routes are great for beginners, some are exciting for the experienced kayaker. If you are a beginner, choose a day of calm weather and stay in shallow water. An example is the route along the beach from Vesterø to Stokken. Or kayak from Vesterø to the Rønner Reef north of Holtemmen. For the experienced kayaker, we recommend the route along the northern coast from Vesterø to Østerby. Remember to bring a lunch box and drinks!
Surfing
If you love to surf, Læsø offers an array of opportunities to do so, whether you are experienced or a beginner. If you belong in the latter category, you will enjoy surfing at "Flaget" north of Vesterø Harbor. As a beginner, you can start out in the shallow water between Stokken and the beach at Sdr. Nyland - it is impossible to drift to the open sea here! If you are more experienced, you can find more challenging waters along the northern coast of Læsø, at Storedal, Hvide Bakker and Danzigmand. Please note that there is currently no place on Læsø where you can rent surfing equipment, so you must bring your own.
Stokken
To reach Stokken, which is actually an elongated shoal, you must wade approx. 50 m through water from the parking lot. It makes the family trip to the beach a bit more complicated, when picnic basket and shoes must be carried across, but it is all worth it! The beach is approximately 5 km long, meaning lots of room for everybody, even during high season.
A walk along the water is also very nice here, and you can find lots of beautiful and large shells. The western part of Stokken is protected from May 15th to July 15th for the sake of nesting birds, and entry is prohibited during this time.
Amber on Læsø
Læsø is one of the places in Denmark where can be lucky enough to find amber. The best conditions for finding amber are strong winds and high tide. When the wind then subsides and the water withdraws, the amber will be left on the shore and deposited on the beach. The beach at Danzigmand and Storedal, as well as north of Vesterø Harbor, are ideal places to look for amber.
